Tom Pryce was a Welsh racing driver who was involved in a fatal accident during the 1977 South African Grand Prix. During the race, a marshal ran onto the track to extinguish a fire on another car, without noticing Pryce approaching at high speed. Pryce collided with the marshal at 170 mph, killing them both instantly. The collision caused the marshal's fire extinguisher to strike Pryce in the head, killing him instantly. The incident led to improvements in safety procedures in Formula One, including the use of a yellow warning flag to signal a hazard on the track.
